Sagara Sanosuke is a stubborn, loud-mouthed, natural-born fighter with an iron will and a heart of gold. He has incredible physical strength, as he was able to use the massive Zanbatou, the biggest sword ever made. Sanosuke wants to be strong so that he will never lose a friend like his former master and hero, Sagara Souzo, captain of the Sekihoutai. He also hates being called Kenshin's weakness, which is another reason he wants to become even stronger. Saitoh's observation of him as such spurred him to learn Futae no Kiwami from Anji. Before he met Kenshin, Sano spent his childhood in the Sekihoutai, but that group of civilian soldiers was slaughtered by the government when they had no more use for them. This spurred Sanosuke into becoming a fighter for money, which is how he met Kenshin. (Sanosuke was hired to fight Kenshin, and Sanosuke did so, partially to take out his grudge on those who killed his captain. ) Sanosuke still wears the character for "evil" on his back as a sign of his past & in memory of the Sekihoutai. Sanosuke's character was inspired by the tenth captain of the Shinsengumi, Harata Sanosuke, who was called one of the five most handsome men of the Shinsengumi! *drools*!
